They call it 'The Land of Smiles'

Boracay Fun! Parrot fish at the fish market!

Yes it's true what they say...Thailand is getting more and more touristic by the day and 'farang' (western tourists) are encroaching the country left and right. But it's still nice to be back in a place where things are familiar. We had taken for granted how widespread English is spoken and written everywhere in the Philippines. It's noticeably less in Thailand. And we had to get used to driving on the opposite side of the road again...just like in NZ. We got a motorbike for a few days in Chiang Mai though Jay sits behind me cause it's safer that way...hi hi. I think we'll enjoy the rest of time we have in the north here cause it's definitely more laid back than Bangkok (although it's super catered to tourists...at every other corner there's a 'tourist office' selling tours to orchid farms, snake farms, wat (temples), cooking courses...).
They just love King in Thailsnd and glorify him
with posters, emblems, and anthems...
It's nice to have some good food with real veggie options...spicy though...ooof. Jay's lovin the pad Thai and fresh mango shakes. Oh and there's a street vendor that makes these fabulous banana and chocolate crepes right near our guesthouse...for 15 bhat (50 cents)! Things are cheaper in Chiang Mai...although they're cheaper in Thailand period. Our room is 200B, our motorbike is 100B/day....affordable henh?
well...i've been sitting here for too long trying to upload our latest photos but the blog is not cooperating with me...so we'll have to keep the snapshots, jems, mems, factoids...whatever you might call them...for later. Thanks for all the comments. Happy belated Earth Day to everyone...it was pretty well advertised all over the Phillipines and Thailand...it's a good sign ; )
Laid back Buddha at Wat Pho It's a little hard asking for directions
with landmark names lie this!

Is the guy who changes your money, called,a " Baht Man"?And if he charges an exhorbitant rate, is he " Robin" you?And where do you eat the take out Pad Thai?In your Thai pad?? Those choco/banana crepes are sounding pretty good;if you can't bring any back home, you had better learn how to make them,so that we too,can marvel at their exquisite perfection!

Wow you two, I am so impressed with all you're getting to do during this very beautiful trip of yours. I'm happy to hear it's hot and humid and that there are mango shakes to go around for the cool down, Mmmmmm.... Atulfos mangos....Actually, atulfos are in season right now in Mtl and are simply delectable. Jeffrey and I bought a case of them, but to our dismay, couldn't get to all 16 in-time :(. Hihih Dad, you made a pretty good funny about the Bahtman&Robin', lol. From the looks of it Jay and Rachel, you guys are getting a good deal by the sounds of it, both with the value of money and with the great food you love to describe to us! I'm sure you'll be treating us all to some amazing green & red curries, pad thais and yes, mega-licious-sounding-chocolate-&-banana crepes.. drool....upon your return. I can't wait! Now, no doubt you guys have heard about our equally hot, summertime weather we've been experiencing back home (unless you're from Alberta, that is)..? It's been over 20 degrees all week, and when it hit 25 C on Monday, you'd have thought it was early July. The massive amounts of snow litterally evaporated in a matter of days and everything has begun blooming weeks ahead of schedule. April showers bring May flowers... but it rained for about an hour last night, and it's been the first drops we've seen in over 2 weeks....actually, the first since it last snowed at the beginning of the month. Ok, on that note (snow), I'll wish you guys a continued lovely and great time in the Far East and looking forward to the latest photos :) Many xo's and keep those smiles coming -Claud :)
